BEIJING, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- Saturday marks the anniversary of the opening of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, as Beijing became the first city in the world to have hosted both summer and winter Olympic Games.
China tallied nine golds and 15 medals overall at the Games, both record highs for the country at a single Winter Olympics.
The Beijing Winter Olympics won widespread compliments from participants for its excellent venues, organization and volunteers, and Chinese culture was superbly showcased during the Games that coincided with the Chinese New Year, one of the most important traditional festivals in the country.
Beijing 2022 created social and economic benefits that went beyond the Games themselves, with a growing number of Chinese people showing enthusiasm towards winter sports and enjoying fun on ice rinks and snow pistes.
As the International Olympic Committee put it in a recent article: "The Games have engaged 346 million Chinese in winter sports since 2015 and created lasting, wide-ranging social and economic benefits for local people."
Smiles, tears, breakthroughs, friendship. One year on, what are the memories that first came to your mind when thinking of these "streamlined, safe and splendid" Games that China presented to the world?
