Cape Town - South Africa's Charl Schwartzel has withdrawn from this week's 101st PGA Championship due to a wrist injury.
Schwartzel has struggled of late with injury and has seen his world ranking plummet to 125th.
Schwartzel's withdrawal leaves eighth South Africans in the 156-man field for the year's second Major to be played at Bethpage Black in New York, starting on Thursday.
The last time a South African lifted the famed Wanamaker Trophy was in 1972 when Gary Player won by two strokes for his second PGA Championship title.
American Bronson Burgoon will replace Schwartzel in the field.
